What all three programmes share
Every Oxherd Ledger programme is built around the same core principle: that good financial education helps you think more clearly about your own situation, rather than telling you what to do about it. We use historical data to show what investment income has actually looked like. We ask participants to apply the concepts to their own numbers through written exercises. We are direct about what is uncertain or complex.
Foundations of Investment Income
This course is designed for Hong Kong residents in their 40s and 50s who want to understand the realistic landscape of investment income โ what different income sources actually are, how they have behaved historically, and what "passive" income really means in daily practice.
What you'll cover
- Dividends, interest, rental income, and total return โ how each works and differs
- Historical yield ranges across major asset classes for Hong Kong-based investors
- Why "passive" income involves more active management than commonly assumed
- Calibrating expectations using real market data, not hypothetical returns
- The role of risk in income generation โ yield and volatility trade-offs
How it's structured
Building a Diversified Income Portfolio
For participants ready to think through how to construct a portfolio with meaningful income generation alongside long-term capital preservation. This programme covers asset class allocation in depth and pays particular attention to the tax treatment of each income type for Hong Kong residents.
What you'll cover
- Allocation across dividend equities, bond portfolios, REITs, and cash instruments
- Tax treatment of each income type for Hong Kong residents โ what applies and what doesn't
- Portfolio concentration risk and why diversification in income sources matters
- Correlation of income streams across market conditions
- Written allocation exercise applied to your own time horizon and portfolio size
How it's structured
Long-Horizon Income Planning Programme
The most comprehensive of the three programmes. Designed for learners who want to think about investment income not just today but across three or four decades โ from current allocation decisions through to late retirement. Each participant builds a written long-horizon income plan over the course of ten weeks.
What you'll cover
- Real-terms income planning โ income that keeps pace with price changes over decades
- The discipline of partial withdrawal versus reinvestment across different market conditions
- Cash buffer sizing and the role of liquidity in a long-horizon income plan
- Integration with MPF and other retirement assets in the Hong Kong context
- Sequence-of-returns risk and how it affects income withdrawal strategies
- Building and refining a written long-horizon income plan across the programme
